Job Description
Amogy is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to join our Electrical Systems team. In this position, you will apply your comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering to lead the development of power distribution systems for Amogy’s ammonia-to-power solutions. Your expertise will ensure the reliable and efficient operation of Amogy’s first commercial product.
- Analyze system requirements, including voltage, frequency, power capacity, and power quality standards, and guide the team in designing optimized power source systems.
- Design and develop power source systems that meet electrical load demands and comply with relevant marine and stationary electrical standards, including but not limited to switchboard design, distribution panel design, and general mechanical layout guidance.
- Conduct necessary electrical analysis on Amogy power distribution systems, including but not limited to short-circuit
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including naval architects, electrical engineers, and shipyard personnel, to integrate power systems into customer assets.
- Select and specify power generation and conversion equipment, such as generators, inverters, transformers, and power conditioning devices, considering space and weight limitations.
- Develop electrical system schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications for power source systems, ensuring compatibility with customer’s power distribution infrastructure.
- Provide technical guidance and support during the installation, operation, and maintenance of power source systems.
- Prepare technical documentation, including engineering reports, specifications, and operation and maintenance manuals for power source systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including implementing protection measures, grounding systems, and safety interlocks to safeguard personnel and equipment.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical support to team members, fostering their professional growth and facilitating their successful execution of projects.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications we seek:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. A master's degree or higher is preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a related field.
- Proficiency in electrical system design software, simulation tools, and SolidWorks Electrical, with the ability to lead advanced engineering calculations and simulations.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in project management, strategic planning, and guiding cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and suppliers.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality results within set deadlines.
- Experience with common power topologies (i.e. medium voltage DC, up to 1000; bi-directional DCDC converters, etc)
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience in designing and developing power source systems for marine applications, including a strong track record of successfully interfacing with ship grid systems.
- In-depth knowledge of marine electrical systems, power generation, power distribution, and power conversion equipment, coupled with a deep understanding of relevant marine regulations and standards.
- Design experience complying with maritime compliance, such as ABS and DNV.
