What you will do:
The process technician will primarily operate pilot and semi-pilot equipment to demonstrate a variety of chemical conversions and separations. In this role you will:
- Operate a variety of chemical and hydrometallurgical process equipment, including tanks, pumps, mixers, filtration, heat exchangers, cranes, and conveyors
- Collect experimental data and prepare reports based on findings.
- Assist in the development of mass and energy balances for processes and reaction
- Troubleshoot equipment and make recommendations to improve the robustness, reliability, and efficiency of process equipment
- Build, upgrade, modify, and maintain chemical process systems; including basic fabrication and assembly tasks
- Take samples and perform measurements such as pH, temperature, and titrations
- Calibrate and perform routine maintenance tasks as needed
- Assist with safety reviews of new processes
- Collaborates with internal teams, vendors, and outside agencies as needed
- Other duties as assigned
What we need you to bring to the team:
- Associate degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or related field of study; a directly related certification; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience
- 3 years of related experience
- Basic understanding of process monitoring (e.g. sensors for pressure, temperature, flow, etc) and process control
- Experience with machining tasks including drilling, cutting, and low-voltage (12-24V) wiring
- Experience operating fluid flow equipment such as pumps, common plumbing fittings, and valves
- Experience maintaining equipment and instrumentation such as calibrations, replacements, and control charts
- Experience with or willingness to learn about chemical safety
- Basic organizational and time management skills
- Basic verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with, or ability to quickly learn, Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
What we want you to bring to the team:
- Experience with analytical techniques such as pH measurement, titration, ICP-OES, and density measurements
- Experience writing and modifying standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Experience designing and building test fixtures to test specific pieces of equipment or analytical techniques
- Experience with writing and modifying chemical safety procedures
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand/sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to operate the following equipment and tools: overhead cranes, scissor lifts, forklifts, and light fabrication
Compensation:
- The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $25.00 to $30.00 per hour and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
