Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products, making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. We’re doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.
Plant Controller
We are looking for a Senior Finance Leader to oversee all aspects of accounting for manufacturing, business units and inventory/cost accounting at Redwood Materials. We’re continuing to build out our Battery Materials Campus (BMC) near Reno, Nevada to process and refine used batteries and scrap to sell Calcined Metal Concentrate, Hydro Metallurgy Concentrate, Copper Foil and other future products. We also are building a second BMC in South Carolina. This is a critical and highly visible role that will be instrumental in driving cost and operational efficiency, financial reporting and overall process improvement. The Plant Controller will be accountable for the overall accuracy of all business unit P&L’s, Cost Accounting and Inventory accuracy. They will also partner closely with Senior Business leaders to measure and drive operational performance.
Responsibilities will include:
- Build and manage a high performing team of business minded and technical accountants to lead accounting for business unit P&L’s, cost and inventory accounting.
- Own and be accountable for the accuracy of manufacturing, material flow, inventory and cost accounting.
- Define key operational and financial metrics. Regularly measure and report out to business. Attend and present financial results in monthly business reviews.
- Analyze and report manufacturing efficiency variances and determine corrective action requirements
- Determine key milestones of construction and manufacturing efficiency and drive accurate accounting allocation and attribution of costs: For example:
- How do we measure and allocate internal labor on various projects; whether that be construction engineers working on design and build, or chemical operators assisting with commissioning a plant?
- At what point is an asset capitalized and depreciated? What is it’s useful life?
- Key partner and architect with IT to build cost accounting in Oracle.
- Partner closely with manufacturing to develop Bill of Materials, continuous refinement of BOM and measuring monthly variances to drive cost improvement.
- Partner with Material Flow and Inventory teams to develop best practices for inventory accuracy; including receiving operations, cycle counting and inventory movement through warehouses, manufacturing and shipping to customers.
- Partner closely with FP&A to understand future trends and forecasts.
- Own the accuracy of US GAAP reporting of Inventory and Cost of Goods Sold of financial statements for various legal entities. Team will be responsible for:
- Recording journal entries,
- Preparing account reconciliations,
- Writing memos for the business and auditors to explain methodology.
- Preparing monthly US GAAP analysis for close presentations.
- Preparing monthly Business Unit P&L’s and key operational and financial metrics for business.
Desired Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience in a complex manufacturing environment in a publicly traded company or large private company with advanced internal control structure.
- Manufacturing, Inventory and Cost accounting.
- Experience working with IT to develop advanced, robust ERP manufacturing accounting and reporting (Oracle preferable).
- Deep business acumen and passion for understanding the underlying business and translating that to financial data.
- Ability to simplify the complex and translate information to management and others in a digestible and actionable format.
- Passion for driving excellence.
- Ability to thrive in a constantly changing and often ambiguous environment.
- Ability to ruthlessly prioritize and execute the most impactful tasks and projects.

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
