Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products, making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. We’re doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.
Associate Engineer, EHS
The Associate EHS Engineer will be responsible for the performance of tasks in industrial hygiene monitoring, safety audits, respiratory protection, spill mitigation, incident investigation, job hazard analysis (JHA), environmental inspections, and hazard recognition and mitigation. The Associate EHS Engineer will be responsible for assisting the EHS team with compliance audits, air permit applications, safety and IH program development, training and partnering with Production, Maintenance, R&D, and Construction teams to provide daily EHS operational support.
Responsibilities Will Include:
- Implementing core EHS policies and programs
- Developing and implementing EHS projects and programs
- Supporting Air Permitting Engineer and writing air permit applications
- Developing and implementing core industrial hygiene programs
- ISO 14001 and 45001 certification
- Conducting safety and compliance audits
- Leading investigations into injuries and developing corrective actions
- Working with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to ensure program compliance and promote EHS policies and procedures
- Writing and maintaining reports including EHS inspections, Job Safety Analysis, and incident investigation reports
- Providing support to leadership in communicating safety and health concerns to all levels of the organization
- Ensures proper labeling and storage of various waste streams according to regulations
- Provide emergency spill response and cleanup
- Continually identify and investigate opportunities for waste minimization and cost savings
- Ensure availability of waste management instructions binders, hazardous/universal waste labels, required signage
- Conduct daily, weekly, monthly EHS inspections (Hazardous waste, SWPPP, VOE’s,) and input data into EHS databases.
Desired Qualifications:
- 4-year degree in Safety, Environmental Engineering/Science, Biology, Chemistry or sciences is required
- Experience implementing EHS programs for large-scale manufacturing, industrial, or chemical operations
- Ability to work with multiple teams and stakeholders to ensure program compliance
- Ability to apply independent thinking and judgment to address resolution
- Understands the challenges and pace of working in a startup environment
- Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials and safe handling practices
- Must be flexible and able to adapt to constant change
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
- Self-motivated, hands-on mindset, with a willingness to contribute at all levels
- Well organized, excellent attention to details and a passion for all things Environment, Health, and Safety
- Preferred certifications:
- Hazardous Waste Generator RCRA Training
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 – General Industry certification
- Hazard Communication OSHA Training
- HAZWOPER 40 Training
- Forklift Operation Certification
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
- Ability to perform the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing stairs and ladders, standing, and walking (multiple level building) up to 12 hours daily, and an ability to work in manufacturing and construction environments
- Must be physically capable of wearing a negative pressure tight fitting respirator for up to 8 hours per day
- Ability to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
Working Conditions:
- This position covers the 6:00 pm to 6:00 am shift and the ability to work professionally and independently is a key requirement
- Office, Manufacturing, Construction - both indoors and outdoors
- Travel between Carson City, NV and McCarran, NV required
The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
