Role Summary
The Battery Series Engineering Team is in search of a mechanical / electrical engineer that desires to be front and center in producing one of the most critical components of an electric vehicle; the HV Battery. In this role, we are looking for a candidate that is organized, hands-on, can collaborate cross-functionally with ease, and can use first principles to drive continuous design improvements to a given component or system.

As Sr. Series Engineer – HVDB, you will specifically be responsible for the design of the High Voltage Distribution Box (HVDB) and its associated components within the Battery Assembly area in Normal, IL. This opportunity will allow you to grow in the electro-mechanical space by root causing functional and component related issues impacting the HVDB. The ideal candidate will build upon previous design and release experience to lead continuous improvement projects, as well as manage suppliers for implementation and issue resolution.
Responsibilities

- On-site Design Engineering support of the High Voltage Distribution Box (HVDB) and its associated components in Normal, Illinois through Launch, Start of Production, and beyond \n
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Process, and Quality to solve manufacturing ramp, production yield, and scrap issues \n
- Uncover and escalate quality issues, drive to resolution through problem solving techniques (containment, root cause, corrective actions, etc.) \n
- Identify, investigate business case, and lead implementation of continuous improvement opportunities related to cost down, manufacturing cycle time, and quality improvements \n
- Track issues from line and field failures and use root cause analysis to drive process/supplier improvements \n
- Prepare rework plans and quality requirements for rework \n
- Support/Lead builds related to prototype, pilot, and start of production activities for new programs \n
- Own design and operation of bench testing equipment that can quickly identify root causes \n
- Lead DFMEA efforts and proper linkage to PFMEA and Control Plan \n
Qualifications
- \n
- 3+ years of work experience in Battery/Automotive/Aerospace/related industries \n
- At least a bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline \n
- Excellent problem-solving skills; reliant on core engineering principles \n
- Mechanical engineering experience required, electronics / controls experience a plus \n
- Passion for working on products that involve the intersection of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering \n
- Willingness to expand upon existing knowledge base of electro-mechanical systems \n
- Self starter, must be willing to run to and seek out issues \n
- Strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills, both in presentation and technical writing \n
- Previous experience with product launches and production schedules \n
- Passion for testing and teardowns to find the root cause of an issue \n
- Proficiency with statistics and data analysis \n
- Knowledge of battery behavior and high voltage safety \n
- Experience with release engineering including CAD design, GD&T, and PLM interface \n
- Issue tracking tools (Jira, Bugzilla, etc.) a plus \n
- Proficiency using CAN/Ethernet tools for debugging purposes a plus \n
- Proficiency with CATIA V6 (3Dx) and Enovia a plus \n
