- Support the design and implement body manufacturing processes & equipment to grow production capacity in line with corporate goals. \n
- \nLead the joining systems’ implementation and be responsible for joining processes improvements throughout entire project’s lifecycle, including
- \n
- leading complex systematic joining issues and setting framework for the joining process and quality control. \n
- partnering with production engineers and leaders to ensure a successful ramp and long-term production. \n
- perform continues joining process optimization in current and future model production environment. \n
- Implementing weld control plans and requirements. \n
- supporting production in all quality and process related weld topics and issues. \n
- assisting and develop PM procedures, weld training program and champion the training practices \n
\n - Lead the joining process design and improvements along working with design team and key cross functional stakeholders for current and future project(s). Provide product feedback to design engineering teams to ensure joinability & manufacturability without compromising product function or performance. \n
- Develop new joining methods in conjunction with product engineers, materials engineers and equipment vendors. \n
- Be responsible for and ensure safety, quality, cost, timing & throughput targets are being achieved on all projects. Actively look for ways to add value beyond specifically assigned scope of work. \n
- Be part of a world-class engineering team, with a focus on high quality work and rapid project deployment. \n
- Challenge assumptions that are not backed up by a thorough engineering evaluation. \n
- Support other Manufacturing Engineering groups to ensure that decisions and solutions are optimized for Rivian (not silo mindset) \n
- Mentor and provide guidance to Manufacturing Engineering team members \n
- Staff level engineers demonstrate leadership, discipline, self-reliance and developing a clear action plan while executing against it to solve critical production scaling and ramp challenges. \n
Qualifications
Qualifications:
\n- \n
- Excellent problem solver leveraging first-principles to challenge status quo. Demonstrate ability to solve complex technical problems with general guidance and see the solution implemented to a high level of accuracy & quality. \n
- Preferred Master or PhD degree in Material Science, Welding Engineering, or similar technical field. \n
- 9+ years of experience in engineering role or 6 years of experience with higher education degree. \n
- Deep understanding of joinability of steel, aluminum (stamping, extrusion and casting) and/or copper. \n
- Extensive experience with two or more following welding and joining processes and corresponding equipment: self-pierce riveting, auto bolting, flow drill screw, clinching, spot welding, GMAW welding, projection welding, laser welding/brazing, friction stir welding, and hybrid join/bonding. \n
- In-depth experience on joining process and joint design on specifical attributes and performance on body structure. \n
- Knowledgeable in high and low volume manufacturing skills and concepts (cycle time analysis, quality control, equipment efficiency, equipment selection, return on investment, etc.). \n
- Capable of working as a member of a team across several cross functional disciplines, including with external stakeholders. \n
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. \n
- Ability to manage capital projects with aggressive timelines. \n
- Experienced in working within 2D & 3D CAD environments. \n
