Role Summary
Sr. Manufacturing Engineer will be closely integrated into the manufacturing verticals, working with both Manufacturing Engineering and Operations teams. Ideal candidate will have 3+ years of hands-on experience in automated process design, equipment specification, system configuration, parameter optimization, and in process monitoring in automotive or related industry.
Responsibilities

- \nPartner with production operations engineers and leaders to ensure successful ramp and long-term production \n \n
- \nBring up and commission dozens of Rivian Laser Welding Stations \n \n
- \n
- \nImprove yield and availability of laser stations from current ~70-85% range to 95%+ range. \n \n
- \nPerform continued laser welding process optimization to increase yield and throughput \n \n
- \nDevelop laser weld parameters to ensure robust and good quality welds that meets engineering requirement \n \n
- \nProvide production feedback to design engineering teams to ensure manufacturability of product without compromising functionality and performance \n \n
- \nLead and assist production in all quality and process related laser weld topics and issues \n \n
- \n
- \nLead and implement weld control plans and requirements \n \n
- \nAssist and develop PM procedures, PFMEA, weld training program and champion the training practices \n \n
- \nBe responsible for and ensure safety, quality, cost, timing & throughput targets are being achieved on all projects \n \n
Qualifications
- \nBachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar technical field. \n
- \n
- \n3-5 years of experience in engineering role, experience with micro laser welding applications is a plus. \n \n
- \nExperience with Catia/Solidworks \n \n
- \nUnderstanding of materials and its weldability especially of steel, aluminum, and copper in similar and dissimilar metal (steel/aluminum, steel/copper, aluminum/copper) laser welding applications is preferred. \n \n
- \nKnowledge of tooling impacts to the laser welding process, the pros and cons of different laser equipment of optics (Trumpf, Precitec, Blackbird, Lessmüller, Scansonic etc.), fiber/disc laser sources (N-Light, Trumpf, IPG, etc), in-line process or post-weld monitoring systems (LWM, WeldMaster, weldeys, weldcheck, etc) is a plus \n \n
- \nExceptional verbal and written communication skills. \n \n
- \nExperienced in working within 2D & 3D CAD environments. \n \n
- \nDemonstrated experience in laser welding is a plus\n \n
- \nKnowledgeable in high and low volume manufacturing skills (Cycle time, quality control, efficiency, equipment selection, return on investment, etc). \n \n

- \nDemonstrate ability to solve complex technical problems and see the solution implemented to a high level of accuracy & quality. \n \n
- \nAbility to follow general guidance on deliverables and self-guided to develop a path to completion. \n \n
- \nCapable of working as a member of a team across several cross functional disciplines, including vendors. \n \n
