Role Summary
As a Sr. Process Chemical Engineer in the Building Infrastructure Design team, you will plan and oversee the design and construction of process systems for Rivian’s greenfield facility in Social Circle, Georgia. You will work in a diverse team of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Structural & Civil engineers, Technical Program Managers and Engineering Specialists that come together to build world-class facilities to enable Rivian to scale. The role will be in the Atlanta, Georgia region and report directly to the Director of Building Infrastructure Design.
Responsibilities
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

- \nLead the design, specification and execution of industrial wastewater treatment and high purity water (e.g., Reverse Osmosis RO water) systems. \n \n
- \nPlan and scope the design of the process systems (e.g., compressed air, nitrogen, process cooling water, hazardous materials storage and dispensing, etc.) within our facilities. \n \n
- \nSelect the right external partners to execute the design and collaborate with them and with internal teams to see project through to execution. \n \n
- \nReview process engineering deliverables from consultants, including process flow diagrams PFD, piping and instrumentation diagrams P&ID, equipment/instrument datasheets, hydraulics, pressure relief systems, to confirm all designs are delivered per Rivian standards and expectations. \n \n
- \nProvide technical support as subject matter expert during onsite construction, commissioning, inspection, and testing activities to achieve project goals. \n \n

- \nDevelop internal standards, specifications, and analysis tools to improve the design and delivery of all our facilities. \n \n
- \nEngage and champion Rivian’s goals of sustainability and decarbonization through system designs and project decisions. \n \n
Qualifications
- \nBachelor of Science in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of experience (hiring level commensurate with experience). \n
- \n
- \nDemonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and deliver technical projects. \n \n
- \nDemonstrated experience on heavy industrial utilities design on an EPCM environment. \n \n
- \nExperience working with cross-functional disciplines, including external stakeholders and clients. \n \n
- \nExceptional verbal and written communication skills. \n \n
- \nDemonstrated knowledge of thermodynamics, transport phenomena (i.e., heat, momentum, and mass) and equipment/line sizing and rating. \n \n
- \nDesire to work in a technically complex and fast-moving environment. \n

Preferred Qualifications
\n\n
- \nExperience leading the design for major industrial or mission-critical facilities. \n
- \n
- \nLicensed Professional Engineer (or similarly recognized professional certification). \n \n
- \nExperience in the design, specification and execution of hazardous materials storage, transfer, dispensing/mixing, solvent recovery, and abatement systems. \n \n
