    About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

    Role Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated individual for vehicle-level ADAS testing of our vehicles. The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) / Autonomy Test Engineer will help improve Rivian’s program by supporting the development team with vehicle-level tuning and testing as well as ensuring market regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will be highly organized and able to manage fluid projects.

This full-time role requires the flexibility of traveling (up to 20%) to various domestic and international destinations as necessary, to test vehicles on public roads, test tracks and Proving Grounds.

    Responsibilities

    • Design, develop, execute and maintain ADAS, Autonomy & Functional Safety test plans, scenario suites and tooling for feature data collection and validation while keeping track of program milestones. (Vehicle/Pedestrian Detection, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, etc.)
    • Collaborate with Functional Safety team to define and test Safety Goals, developing test scripts to automate and shorten testing life cycle.
    • Plan and execute testing and data capture for regular software regression, DVP and ad-hoc test requests for software development and deployment.
    • Collaborate with internal engineering teams, external governing agencies and test sites to clarify requirements, manage testing, develop and validate vehicle performance.
    • Analyze test data against internal requirements and make recommendations to design teams based on findings, including troubleshooting issues and root cause analysis.
    • Lead on & off-site test trips, including management and support of technicians in test vehicle setup and execution.
    • Generate test reports to document and track test results and communicate issues.
    • Maintain and operate test robots, including liaising with suppliers and maintaining spare parts, targets, and consumables to meet testing demands.
    • Maintain vehicle software and proactively collaborate cross-functionally to solve vehicle-level issues.
    • Design, fabricate and modify test equipment and data acquisition systems as needed.

    Qualifications

    • 2+ years of experience ADAS, autonomous vehicles, functional safety, regulatory, Vehicle Dynamics or related field (ex. US NCAP, EU NCAP, IIHS, ISO26262 / IEC61508, Automotive SPICE).
    • Experience with ground truth equipment (Oxford OXTS, dGPS, Racelogic VBOX).
    • Experience with steering, braking and acceleration robots, robot test targets and tow targets (Moshon, AB Dynamics, 4A, Messring, Humanetics).
    • Experience with automotive electrical systems and communication protocols (CAN, Flexray, XCP, Ethernet, LIN) and relevant debug tools (Vector CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy, Python, etc.).
    • Experience with SW integration, requirements setting, DVP, software development lifecycle, software tools, languages, protocols and configuration management SW (JAMA, JIRA, Confluence, GIT, Python, Matlab, SQL, Python, Go, CAPL etc.)
    • Experience driving prototype vehicles, including proving grounds, limit driving and/or certifications.
    • Valid US driver's license.
    • B.S. degree or strong technical background in Mechanical, Electrical, SW, Mechatronics, Robotics, or Computer Science / Engineering, Vehicle Dynamics, or a related field.
    • Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment is a plus.
    • Excellent analytical, problem solving, communication and collaboration skills is a plus.
    • Hands-on experience with in-vehicle data acquisition and logging systems is a plus.
    • Hands-on experience flashing and debugging complex vehicle systems is a plus.
