Role Summary
Designs and develops electrical aspect of on-board power electronics products for Rivian Automotive, including on-board charger, DC-DC converter, and auxiliary DC-AC inverter.
Responsibilities
- \n
- The Staff Power Electronics Engineer will be responsible for development of high-power electrical circuits such as active rectifier, inverters, and DCDC converters \n
- Perform topology selection trade studies \n
- Design circuits, select components, create schematics, support layout of circuit boards \n
- Analyze and simulate circuits and key components \n
- Simulate circuits using Matlab, PLECS, and other tools \n
- Analyze structures and magnetic components such as bus bars and high frequency transformers/inductors \n
- EMI/EMC filter design \n
- Interact with suppliers on critical components \n
- Test prototype power electronics circuits in lab \n
- Characterize power semiconductor devices including Silicon, SiC, and GaN \n
- Support software engineers who develop algorithms and application code for embedded controller \n
- Engage with Mechanical, Systems, Test, Quality, manufacturing, and Reliability Engineers \n
- Coach and provide guidance for junior level engineers for critical technical test and decisions. \n

Qualifications
- \n
- Minimum M.S. in Electrical Engineering (Ph.D. preferred), specializing in power electronics \n
- Minimum 3 years’ experience developing high power electronics \n
- Deep understanding of power semiconductor switches and diodes, and their characteristics \n
- Understanding of devices built upon various materials such as silicon, SiC, and GaN \n
- Strong experience designing and analyzing inverter and converter circuits including gate drivers \n
- Knowledge and experience with embedded control of power electronic circuits \n
- Power converters and grid tie control \n
- PWM methods \n
- Power converter thermal analysis and protection \n
- Dual active bridge DC/DC modeling and control \n
- Experience with bidirectional power conversion \n
- Experience of EMI/EMC filter design for power electronics products \n
- Skilled working in lab environment with high voltage and current \n
- \nExperience using software tools such as Spice, PLECS, Mathcad, Ansys Simplorer, and Matlab\n \n
- Experience using FEA simulation tool such as Ansys Maxwell/Q3D or equivalent \n
- Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment \n

Pay Disclosure
- \n
- Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $150,000 - $173,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law). \n
- Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums. \n
