Role Summary
The role of Technical Specialist – Heat Exchangers is to interface internally with Body, Studio, Packaging, Attribute, NVH, Aerodynamics, CAE, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, etc to provide guidance on design and manufacturing of heat exchangers and heat exchanger modules, and externally with suppliers to cascade Rivian’s requirements and oversee design, validation, and release process for Rivian’s current and future thermal system.
Responsibilities

- Be the subject matter expert in design, manufacture, and mass production of heat exchangers and heat exchanger modules for vehicular thermal system, including but not limited to condenser, outside heat exchanger for heat pump, high-temperature and low-temperature radiator, battery chiller, liquid-cooled condenser, cabin evaporator, cabin condenser, or heater core in HVAC, and front-end heat exchanger fan module \n
- In particular, be the owner of front-end heat exchanger fan module including radiator, OHX/condenser, fan, shroud, and active-grille shutter (AGS): a) Interface with Body, Studio, Packaging, Attribute, NVH, Aerodynamics, and CAE engineering to ensure optimal design and integration for aerodynamic and range efficiency; b) Support supply chain with engineering requirements throughout quotation and sourcing; c) Interface with suppliers on design, release, tooling, and validation; d) Support critical program milestones and build events, e.g. Virtual Release, Virtual Build, Design Verification Build, Manufacturing Verification Build, etc \n
- Guide Design & Release team in development of Engineering Specification, Design Verification, & Production Verification plans for heat exchangers and heat exchanger modules \n
- Develop/Review other foundation documents as required, including risk assessment/management, DFMEA, PFMEA, and Functional Safety \n
- Interface with plant Series Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, General Assembly and ensure all Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly standards are met \n
- Support/Coordinate system development between Design & Release team and Testing/CAE team, Attribute, and Controls; provide input to bench/vehicle test plan; decompose system requirements to heat exchanger sizing and heat exchanger module design \n
Qualifications
- \n
- Minimum BSME degree with in mechanical/automotive engineering \n
- 10+ years of experience related to heat exchanger design, release, and production \n
- Tier 1 supplier experience on heat exchangers and heat exchange module a plus \n
- Proficiency in CAD for design and release; CATIA V6 preferred \n
- Field experience of manufacturing and logistics for heat exchangers and heat exchanger modules \n
- Knowledge on thermal, mechanical, NVH, durability, corrosion, and electrical requirements for heat exchangers and heat exchanger modules \n
- Experience on heat pump technology and development a plus \n
- Experience on at least one full product cycle from concept creation to mass production \n
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with peers and leadership \n
- Ability to work independently and proactively in fast-paced environment \n
