Responsibilities
- \n
- Candidate will be responsible for project management and engineering deliverables for development of aluminum and steel wheels, and wheel accessories (wheel covers, caps, fasteners) \n
- Design and implement wheel component and systems, integrating with chassis component systems from concept into serial production. \n
- Capture vehicle level wheel related requirements & attributes, and deliver against those targets. \n
- Seek solutions to technical challenges & problem solve issues arising during the wheel development & in serial production (with tire and assembly) \n
- Ensure wheel component and subsystems meet all markets into which Rivian vehicles will be offered. \n
- Deliver wheel programs according to Rivian standards and guidelines. \n
- Utilize knowledge and experience gained from working within wheel development in conjunction with lean principles to enhance the wheel offering for future vehicles at Rivian. \n
- Operate as a standalone role and responsible for owning program specific wheel chassis deliverables (engaging with Lead & Senior Lead Chassis & Vehicle Dynamics Engineers) \n
- Create and develop engineering specification packages that effectively communicate to internal and external partners to ensure products meet given project parameters \n
- Understand, interpret and ensure tire related local, regional and international homologation requirements are met. \n
- Maintain and manage wheel component and vehicle level sub system design verification requirements & testing. \n
- Complete and release wheel and/or tire wheel assembly documentation, including 2D drawings \n
- Manage designed parts in the virtual environment and support virtual build and release activities \n
- Develop collaborative relationships with wheel suppliers & wheel/tire assemblers, and manage them to deliver projects on time and to specification \n
- Supporting initial wheel 2D & 3D Themes, working alongside Rivian Studio Engineering and Design Teams; assess wheel design feasibility, monitor wheel attribute targets, offer technical direction on maturing wheel designs into feasible solutions. \n
- Working confidently in CATIA 3DX environment performing; assembly, packaging, measurement, surfacing GSD, drawings \n
- Evaluating wheel designs with CAE software. \n
- Working with nominated wheel supplier after award to develop wheel designs, balancing supplier and studio requirements whilst protecting wheel attribute targets \n
- Facilitate regular touchpoints between supplier and studio, whilst managing project schedule \n
- Confidently mediate design compromise discussions between studio and supplier. \n
- Effectively balance multiple projects, responsibilities, and tasks simultaneously \n
- Meet program timing & budget constraints whilst achieving mass, vehicle dynamics, crash, aero, NVH and chassis attribute targets \n
- Define validation procedures to ensure only optimized, integrated and robust designs are released \n
- Travel as necessary to support testing, supplier visits & production engineering support \n

Qualifications
- \n
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree (Automotive, Mechanical or Motorsport engineering) and 3 years experience wheel design and/or development experience required at Wheel Supplier or OEM \n
- or Minimum Master’s degree (Automotive, Mechanical or Motorsport engineering) and 1 years experience wheel design and/or development experience required at Wheel Supplier or OEM \n
- Must be familiar with DFMEA/DVPR usage and review of these documents \n
- Strong experience using CAD (ideally CATIA V6) required \n
- Solid fundamental knowledge of chassis design, vehicle dynamics, wheel & tire alignment, tire uniformity and tire design contributors to vehicle level performance \n
- Understanding of wheel & tire design standards & code (ETRTO, TR&A etc) & homologation \n
- Candidates should be self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced team environment \n
- Candidates should have the ability to manage multiple wheel projects at the same time \n
- Excellent communication skills, able to interact effectively with domestic and international teammates & suppliers \n
- Must be a self-starter, use initiative and engineering judgement \n
- Ability to interpret data and solve complex problems using first principles \n
Pay Disclosure
Salary range for California Based Applicants: $121,000-$139,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
