Role Summary
In this role, you will be responsible for the complete paint pretreatment and application process and related supporting processes. You will be considered as a subject matter expert. In depth knowledge of automotive body pretreatment and electrocoating process and chemistry control is required, with ability to resolve complex application, structure, and processing problems. Own the quality and throughput with continuous improvement mindset. Lead downtime recovery, and own PFMEA, Control Plan, standard work and TPM initiatives. Support in training and developing the technical team.
Responsibilities

- Use engineering principles and best practices for establishing, improving, and adjusting and controlling processes for robust process application and control for world class OEE. \n
- Interface with maintenance and controls personnel to ensure that the paint shop equipment is running properly and that predictive maintenance is being done. Will lead downtime recovery and recurrence prevention plans. \n
- Provide regular updates and reports on quality and downtime issues, and develop countermeasures cross functionally. \n
- Using problem solving tools and techniques, the Engineer will promptly address problems and act to define, resolve, and verify problem resolution related to equipment downtime and quality. \n
- Develop processes and run trials / tests to create high quality paint compounds and ensure correct durability protection. Lead new program development projects from technical side. \n
- Write and train on Job Element Sheets / Standardized Work Sheets / Standard Operating Sheets to establish standardized and repeatable processes, as needed. \n
- Lead TPM initiative and Autonomous Maintenance to help improve Mean Time Between Failure of equipment through study of equipment performance and manufacturer’s technical data related to complex and varied equipment such as rectifier, spray and chemical treatment systems, pumping system, and air handling systems as well as cure systems. \n
- Engineer and develop new application systems and equipment and coordinate fabrication and construction to facilitate and improve Overall Equipment Efficiency. \n
- Support safe work environment. The Engineer will conduct periodic safety walks of the paint shop to assure that correct procedures are being followed. \n
- The Engineer will participate with the EH&S coordinator in generating reports for government regulation compliance. \n
- Train and develop engineers and technicians to create a strong technical team. \n
- The Engineer shall oversee the activities of suppliers, service representatives and contract personnel working in the paint shop. \n
- The engineer will provide close coordination of all required testing and coordination with the paint and chemical suppliers to ensure required protection of the treated body and parts. \n
Qualifications
- \n
- Prior supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment (1-3 years). \n
- 5+ years of experience with automotive pretreatment and ecoat systems in an engineering role. \n
- Engineering degree in technical area (BSME, BS Chemical Engineering, etc.) required \n
- Six Sigma black belt certification is a plus. \n
- Strong controls logic understanding for troubleshooting and equipment performance improvement is desired. \n
