Role Summary
As the Staff Technical Safety Engineer you will work with Other Technical Safety Engineers and System Engineers to identify functional insufficiencies and triggering events including misuse scenarios associated with ADAS features designed for Rivian vehicles. In this role, you will use technical skills and work cross functionally to develop engineering solutions based on existing automotive industry standards (Ie. ISO 21448, UL 4600, IEEE 2846, etc.) that help define diagnostic strategies for performance and functional limitations.
Responsibilities

Define creative technical solutions to improve the safety of ADAS features
\nDevelop work products in accordance with Rivian’s internal safety process based of existing industry standards
\nPerform hazard identification and risk evaluation based on functional system specification and identify risk acceptance criteria
\nIdentify potential functional insufficiencies and triggering events by utilizing analysis techniques such as HAZOP, FTA, FMEA, STPA and misuse analysis

Collaborate cross functionally with functional safety engineers, system architects, software developers and verification engineers to ensure that the ADAS feature safety concepts and requirements are aligned with the overall design strategy.
\nDerive validation and verification test scenarios to demonstrate safety of ADAS features
\nProvide feedback and improve the internal processes

Qualifications
- \n
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 5+ years of relevant experience
\nStrong ADAS system engineering background
\nWorking knowledge of relevant standards and methods such as ISO26262 and ISO 21448
\nExperience performing System Safety Engineering tasks for ADAS features such as various analysis techniques (HAZOP/HARA, FMEA, FTA, STPA, etc)
\nAbility to drive technical solutions for SW and HW design
\n

Experienced in requirement writing based on industry best practices
\nGood interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of integrity
\nExperience working within a cross-functional team
\n
General knowledge of machine learning is a plus
- \n
Working knowledge of System-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) is a plus
\nExperience in probabilistic modeling of traffic scenarios is a plus
\nKnowledge of system and vehicle simulations techniques used for ADAS features is a plus

Pay Disclosure
Salary range for Palo Alto, California Based Applicants: $184,000-$211,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
\n\n
Salary range for Irvine, California Based Applicants: $168,000-$193,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
\n\n
