Role Summary
The Senior NPI Materials Process Engineer will lead the analysis, design and implementation of material flow projects in Rivian Pilot Production facility. This role requires strong industrial engineering fundamentals and the ability to apply first principles thinking to design material handling systems. Under the supply chain and logistics organization NPI is responsible for the oversight, standardization, and technical leadership of the internal material handling operations at the Rivian Pilot Production facility. The NPI PE position is responsible for engineering and executing the internal logistics flow of parts through a specific plant to the production line. This position will be responsible for the development and design of internal material delivery processes. Must be comfortable working and communicating with stakeholders. Candidate will develop business solutions to support operations through process analysis, time studies, work balancing, etc.
Responsibilities

- In this front-line role, you will have a hand in improving current processes, partnering with cross functional teams and work through high-level problem solving to meet KPIs \n
- Responsible for engineering and implementing the Plan for Every Part including all container and packaging specifications, storage and staging layouts, processing areas and replenishment processes \n
- Responsible for leading the implementation of operational process across the value stream in a manufacturing or distribution facility \n
- Provides hands on execution and coaching of the lean principles (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, 5S, Standard Work, Line/Cell Design, Single Piece Flow, Material Flow, Visual Management, Root Cause Problem Solving, etc.) and tools to eliminate waste in all operations functions \n
- Provides Continuous Improvement solutions to solve complex Material Flow issues \n
- Coach others to develop and implement Continuous Improvement solutions to solve complex process issues \n
- Develop, document, and implement standard work to provide a basis of continuous improvement \n
- Continuous Improvement - Uses KPI's to create reliable/sustainable improvements, drives standard work, focuses on process \n
- Engineers all end-to-end Material Flows from supplier receipt to lineside delivery in order to efficiently meet production requirements \n
- Designs optimized layouts for material storage and processing for multiple warehouse site and all manufacturing areas \n
- Conducts time studies to determine headcount and equipment requirements in order to define department budget forecasts \n
- Manages all container, dolly, and packaging requirements and organizes reviews and buyoffs of prototype units during pilot builds \n
- Maintains the Production Control Plan for Every Part database, including standard packaging data and all material flow attributes \n
- Leads Continuous Improvement projects to improve efficiency of material handling processes and drive cost reductions \n
- Interfaces with plant facility or service provider to schedule and coordinate equipment preventative maintenance \n
- Liaisons with platform containerization and logistics \n
Qualifications

- Must have excellent communication skills – both verbal and written \n
- Significant experience using CATIA/ENOVIA \n
- Experience and/or Knowledge in DOE, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance, Torque Tooling, Error Proofing, and PFMEA \n
- Experience and/or certification in Six Sigma DMAIC (optional), Lean Assembly Principles, Time Studies using MTM or MODAPTS \n
- Working knowledge in Excel, Word, Power point, and Outlook programs \n
- Creative problem-solving skills \n
- Ability to meet deadlines \n
- Strong team orientation and cross functional attitude \n
- Kaizen, 5S, Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma etc. experience is a plus \n
- 4+ yeas of engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing operation, preferably automotive \n
Pay Disclosure
Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $107,000 - $123,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
