    Role Summary

    The Sr. Staff Battery Controls Systems Engineer position will lead the high voltage battery's control system architectural definition, requirement development with respect to cell electromechanical influence on battery state estimation by balancing safety and durability with pack and vehicle performance.  This position will work cross-functionally to execute this responsibility, including the battery cell, thermal, design, software, and hardware teams, along with vehicle controls teams with focus on battery state estimation from project kickoff, definition, implementation, validation, and delivery to production.


    Responsibilities

      \n
    • Own and lead system design process to analyze upstream requirements (vehicle, powertrain, system), cascade them to BCS sub-system features, and develop system requirement and validation specification.
    • \n
    • Lead functional safety development and analysis of safety specific BCS features to comply with ISO-26262 standard and other automotive safety standards.
    • \n
    • Lead as the BCS HV battery state estimation SME (Subject Matter Expert) in close collaboration with BMS SW team for algorithm development and implementation with respect to cell electrochemical performance and cell safety consideration and vehicle performance.
    • \n
    • Create/update/modify/manage documentation to maintain accurate engineering work products; work with related engineers to review/approve/validate/release the deliverables and changes following Rivian engineering process and toolchains
    • \n
    • Represent the Battery Control Systems Engineering Team as a subject matter expert in Battery Control functional and functional safety areas with crossfunctional development teams
    • \n
    • Support battery program engineers on upstream requirement development, validation, as well as planning and delivery of work products for different program milestones
    • \n
    • Develop and contribute to Fault Tree Analysis, FMEDA analysis, FMEA and generation of software and hardware diagnostic requirements
    • \n
    • Communicate and drive cross functional development of control requirements with vehicle attribute, functional safety, propulsion, thermal, and energy management teams
    • \n
    • Collaborate with system integration and validation engineers on validation planning; support validation execution and result review; support trouble shooting to determine solutions to observed issues
    • \n
    • Adapt and work within dynamic development timelines of multiple programs, with accelerated hardware production timelines, and software release cadence
    • \n
    • Quickly transition to a variety of engineering discipline work, from high-level cross sub-system projects to specific component focus, depending on need of the team and stage of development/ production
    • \n

    Qualifications

      \n
    • \nStrong background on electrochemical performance and limitations of the cell chemistry with experience on SW development for battery state estimation algorithm\n
    • \n
    • 5+ years of work experience in HV Battery and/or EV powertrain system
    • \n
    • Experience with model-based design to create control systems and simulation models with Matlab/Simulink
    • \n
    • At least a bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline
    • \n
    • Previous experience in automotive product development environments, familiar with development process, product launches and production schedules
    • \n
    • Knowledge of battery sensing technology and battery management architectural design
    • \n
    • Previous hands-on experience with design according to ISO 26262, especially part 4/5/6
    • \n
    • Experience with system requirement development from the ground up, using systematic engineering analysis
    • \n
    • Excellent problem-solving skills; reliant on core engineering principles and common sense
    • \n
    • Strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills, both in presentation and technical writing
    • \n
    • Display a positive attitude and motivation to perform whatever tasks necessary to get the job done
    • \n
    • Display aptitude with a variety of engineering tools such as CAN loggers, software debuggers, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and HV test equipment
    • \n
    • Preferred: Experience with C-programming on embedded systems, proficient skills in Python to support data analysis
    • \n
    • Preferred: Versed in software development, hardware testing, and production procurement timelines
    • \n
    • Preferred: Versed with automated requirements management tools (e.g. JAMA, Doors, etc.) and issue tracking tools (Jira, Bugzilla, etc.).

    Pay Disclosure

    Salary Range for California-Based Applicants: $189,000-217,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, and other factors permitted by law).

    Role Summary

    The Sr. Staff Battery Controls Systems Engineer position will lead the high voltage battery's control system architectural definition, requirement development with respect to cell electromechanical influence on battery state estimation by balancing safety and durability with pack and vehicle performance.  This position will work cross-functionally to execute this responsibility, including the battery cell, thermal, design, software, and hardware teams, along with vehicle controls teams with focus on battery state estimation from project kickoff, definition, implementation, validation, and delivery to production.


    Responsibilities

    • Own and lead system design process to analyze upstream requirements (vehicle, powertrain, system), cascade them to BCS sub-system features, and develop system requirement and validation specification.

    Qualifications

    • Strong background on electrochemical performance and limitations of the cell chemistry with experience on SW development for battery state estimation algorithm
    • 5+ years of work experience in HV Battery and/or EV powertrain system
    • Experience with model-based design to create control systems and simulation models with Matlab/Simulink
    • At least a bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline
    • Previous experience in automotive product development environments, familiar with development process, product launches and production schedules
    • Knowledge of battery sensing technology and battery management architectural design
    • Previous hands-on experience with design according to ISO 26262, especially part 4/5/6
    • Experience with system requirement development from the ground up, using systematic engineering analysis
    • Excellent problem-solving skills; reliant on core engineering principles and common sense
    • Strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills, both in presentation and technical writing
    • Display a positive attitude and motivation to perform whatever tasks necessary to get the job done

    Pay Disclosure

    Salary Range for California-Based Applicants: $189,000-217,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, and other factors permitted by law).
