Role Summary
The thermal attribute test engineer plans, executes, and analyzes vehicle tests to evaluate thermal system performance at a range of ambient temperature and operating conditions.
Responsibilities
- \n
- \nPlan and execute thermal calibration and validation testing. This includes travel to off-site locations for testing in extreme hot and cold conditions. \n \n
- \nPlan and assist with vehicle instrumentation. \n \n
- \nAnalyze and present results to leadership and cross functional teammates \n \n
- \nAssist in the development of mule test planning high level timing plans, mule/prototype builds, data analysis, \n \n
- \nControl system data collection and system calibration \n \n
- \nReal world and test chamber vehicle testing in extreme ambient conditions \n \n
- \nTravel to off-site locations for testing \n \n
- \nWork cross-functionally with HVAC, thermal, and controls development teams to ensure performance of aerothermal systems \n \n
- \nIdentify, document, and highlight system design gaps and vehicle issues during all phases of testing \n \n
- \nCreate testing documentation including test instructions, specifications, drawings and verification plans \n \n
- \nTrack prototype test vehicle build, lead planning and documentation of instrumentation needed for system development and validation testing \n \n
- \nDrive prototype vehicles during certain tests in the real world and in test chamber \n \n
- \nEngage in subjective evaluation to identify system failure modes \n \n
- \nFamiliarity using online tools such as Jira/Jama, common DAQ systems used for data collection during testing \n \n
Qualifications
- \n
- \nBachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited University. The candidate must have strong engineering fundamentals. \n \n
- \n2-3 years of experience in automotive thermal system or HVAC development. \n \n
- \nExperience with thermal instrumentation, data acquisition, and post processing \n \n
- \nWorking knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and relevant debugging tools \n \n
- \nA proven track record of problem solving and independent root cause analysis \n \n
- \nExcellent communication and teamwork skills \n \n
- \nExperience running and maintaining a variety of vehicle level and component level tests \n \n
- \nTeam first mentality \n \n
- \nInnate curiosity about all things automotive \n \n
- \nAbility to work autonomously \n \n
- Minimum age of 21 \n
- No driving related suspensions or revocation of Driver License (within a 3-5 year period) \n
- No drug or alcohol related driving incidents in the last 3 years \n
- No more than 1 serious moving violation in the last 3 years \n
- Must have a valid driver's license in the state of residence that you will be driving/operating a vehicle \n
- Will be subject to continuous Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) monitoring \n
Pay Disclosure
Salary range for California Based Applicants: $121,000 - $139,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
