Role Summary
You’ll be a key member of the product development teams bringing to production Rivian’s next generation of electric vehicle high voltage power electronic products to include Traction Inverters, On-board Chargers, DC-DC Converters and DC-AC Auxiliary Inverters. You’ll be responsible for developing the validation test plans and leading execution of these plans. Plans must be designed to demonstrate component compliance with electrical, mechanical, environmental, durability and EMC requirements.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the software and hardware engineering team members to understand requirements.
- Work with the Test Equipment design group to define the Special Test Equipment (STE) functional requirements.
- Develop test procedures defining specific test setup requirements and instructions.
- Design the test fixtures required for vibration and environmental testing.
- Provide directions to lab technicians (at Rivian labs and at 3rd party test labs) setting up and executing validation tests.
- Create summary reports for all tests conducted and provide data analytics of the data collected during testing.
- Document validation test failures in Rivian’s problem resolution database and support technical root cause analysis and issue resolution.
- Manage supplier sourced sub-component validation efforts and ensure reported defects are addressed and closed.
- Report out Validation status to the product development team.
- Participate in design reviews, requirement reviews, DFMEAs and PFMEAs.
Qualifications
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading automotive component validations.
- Experience in test planning and execution from program inception to final validation sign0ff.
- Understanding of automotive industry validation standards.
- Expertise with environmental test set up and test error proofing.
- Experience designing vibration fixtures.
- Expertise in instrumentation (thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, pressure gauges, flow meters)
- Working knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet)
- Experience with collaboration tools like JIRA, Confluence & requirements management tools like JAMA.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills for relationships with suppliers and vendors.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment.
- Self-motivated: Demonstrated ability to set direction and guide the team towards it.
- Hands-on approach: Proactively identifies and fills in gaps where needed.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Pay Disclosure
Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $121,000 - $139,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
