Role Summary
In this position you will be responsible for defining durability specifications for sub-systems and components. From initial program target setting to facilitate component/vehicle design to collecting on-road load data, cascading to component loads and developing block-cycle, random vibration, or accelerated durability test profiles for validation of components, systems and vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Create / refine automotive durability specifications and test profiles – block cycles, random vibration etc.
- Collaborate with loads development team(s) to define inputs needed for vehicle, sub-system and component durability requirement development.
- Collaborate with validation team(s) to assist in durability test development.
- Lead durability road load road data collection and analysis projects.
- Define data quality standards and measurement best practices to meet the standards.
- Data owner and maintain durability data documentation and RLDA library.
- Work with instrumentation team to collect proving ground data using wheel force transducers, accelerometers, strain gages, string potentiometers, vehicle CAN channels etc.
- Perform analysis with nCode or similar programs to perform durability load / fatigue calculations for body, chassis, propulsion, electronics and suspension systems and components.
- Create standardized methods and document processes.
- Provide raw data and summaries to vehicle modelling and simulations teams for load cascade and correlation studies.
- Support all durability validation including but not limited to – full vehicle proving ground testing, MTS 329 rig durability, component bedplate strength & durability and vibration testing.
- Collaborate within Rivian and w/ external suppliers to ensure specified test protocols are implemented.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or higher
- 5 years of experience in durability, vibration and loads analysis.
- Experience with processing and analyzing time and frequency domain data.
- 2+ years of experience with nCode GlyphWorks, DesignLife and VibeSys modules for data and durability analyses or similar tools.
- Experience with finite element software for component stress analysis.
- Experience defining load data collection, instrumentation and loads collection, and loads analysis to reduce test data to block cycles, random vibration, etc. for component testing.
- Experience with durability testing of components, including Component Block Cycle (single and multi-channel), Random Vibration, MAST Table, Real Phase and Real Time test definition.
- Experience with data analysis tools including but not limited to time series calculations, metadata manipulation, GPS window slicing, Rainflow histograms, Fatigue Damage calculations, Signal filtering, Frequency Response Function Analysis etc.
- Experience building process automation methods is preferred.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Willing to travel up to 20% to witness/observe testing as required.
- Minimum age of 21
- No driving related suspensions or revocation of Driver License (within a 3-5 year period)
- No drug or alcohol related driving incidents in the last 3 years
- No more than 1 serious moving violation in the last 3 years
- Must have a valid driver's license in the state of residence that you will be driving/operating a vehicle
- Will be subject to continuous Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) monitoring
Pay Disclosure
Salary range for California Based Applicants: $121,500-$151,900 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
