Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.
As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
Role Summary
Internship Term:
Rivian internships are experiences optimized for student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and December 2027.
If you are not pursuing a degree, please see our full time positions on our Rivian careers site.
Note that if your university has specific requirements for internship programs, it is your responsibility to fulfill those requirements.
On Rivian’s Reliability Engineering Team, you’ll contribute to a critical project focused on evaluating memory reliability for Rivian’s next-generation vehicles. This project involves analyzing fleet field data, assessing memory usage across software and hardware categories, and using statistical modeling to understand and mitigate risks related to memory degradation. You’ll work cross-functionally with software and hardware teams, gaining hands-on experience in data processing, reliability assessment, and collaboration within a highly dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
The intern will perform a Memory Reliability Study to evaluate memory usage patterns, potential degradation risks, and performance projections for new vehicle designs. Key tasks include:
- Field Data Analysis: Analyze fleet field data to assess memory reliability, identify usage patterns, and build degradation models.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with software teams to understand memory usage patterns and with hardware teams to assess different memory categories and their limitations.
- Statistical Modeling: Develop projections and statistical models to evaluate and anticipate memory reliability issues, applying predictive techniques and reliability tools.
- Testing Preparation: Support preparations for Design Validation Testing (DVT) in Summer 2025, contributing to data-driven test planning and validation.
Qualifications
- Must be actively pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with experience or interest in data science and data analysis.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, SQL, and Python, with experience in Python libraries for plotting and data visualization.
- Familiarity with statistical tools like JMP and ReliaSoft (can be learned on the job).
- Knowledge of memory technologies (NAND, SSD) and degradation modeling is highly desirable.
- Data Analysis Experience: Experience in handling and interpreting large datasets; ability to develop and apply statistical models.
- Collaborative Experience: Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams; previous internship experience preferred, especially with cross-functional or interdisciplinary projects.
- Tools: Familiarity with Google Suite (Google Docs, Sheets), DVC files, and related data processing tools is beneficial.
- 40 hours/week, full-time
