Role Summary
The Vehicle Engineering Labs, Sr. Engineering Technician III is primarily responsible for preparing vehicles for testing at Rivian's Torrance range testing facility, and will cross-train to support other lab functions.
Responsibilities
- Prepare prototype and production vehicles for range testing on a chassis dynamometer
- Change wheels and tires
- Prepare connection points for the vehicle restraint system
- Install adapter harnesses at the high voltage battery
- Flash vehicle software
- Install and troubleshoot instrumentation
- Perform diagnosis and repair of prototype vehicles
- Electrical/mechanical/software systems
- Complete bumper to bumper knowledge of vehicle systems and proper repair procedures
- Knowledge base of tool and equipment usage as it pertains to vehicle repairs
- Fabricate and/or modify existing prototype components/fixtures
- Maintain detailed records of all work performed
- Cross-train to support electric vehicle range testing on a 4WD chassis dynamometer as needed
- Operate the AVL iGEM control interface
- Adjust climate controls for the test and soak chambers
- Setup and record vehicle instrumentation and high voltage power analyzers
- Execute 5-cycle range tests per CFR 40 Part 1066
- Assist with equipment maintenance and calibration
Qualifications
- 5+ years of technician/mechanic work experience in the automotive industry. Electric/hybrid vehicle experience preferred
- Strong automotive electrical understanding
- High Voltage electrical knowledge and training
- CAN/LIN network understanding
- Minor fabrication experience
- Strong technical and mechanical ability
- A proven track record of problem-solving and independent root cause analysis
- Excellent conmunication and teamwork skills
- Ability to produce clear, organized, and tinely documentation
- Team-oriented mindset
- Strong interest in automotive technology
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to lift 40 lbs.
- Will be subject to continuous Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) monitoring
- Must have a valid driver's license in the state of residence that you will be driving/operating a vehicle
- No more than 1 serious moving violation in the last 3 years
- No drug or alcohol related driving incidents in the last 3 years
- No driving related suspensions or revocation of Driver License (within a 3-5 year period)
- Minimum age of 21
