Role Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced EV Charging Attributes Engineer to specialize in vehicle charging integration. This role will focus on the technical interface between the vehicle attributes and other charging related cross-functional teams to ensure optimal charging performance (L1/L2/L3), wireless charging, charging experience, interoperability, and the development of advanced functions like vehicle to loads (V2L), vehicle to vehicle (V2V), vehicle to home (V2H) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G). The candidate will ensure attribute targets are met and validated through vehicle program milestones and final Design Verification Plans (DVPs). The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in EV battery systems, power electronics, communication protocols, and the software that governs vehicle charging behavior. This role is pivotal in fostering cross-functional alignment and resolving complex engineering challenges related to vehicle level charging performance, efficiency and experience.
Responsibilities
- Define vehicle level charging requirements and targets for vehicle programs
- Lead integration of charging development to meet targets through program milestones and sign off target through the Design Verification Plan (DVP)
- Lead benchmark activities for comprehensive EV charging evaluation
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on EV charging technology, industry trends, and new products
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including facilities management, fleet operations, and sustainability teams to facilitate Vehicle-to-Charger Integration
- Serve as the technical lead for validating and testing the charging performance of our EVs with various types of charging hardware
- Conduct rigorous testing to ensure compliance with international charging standards
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex charging issues related to the vehicle's onboard software, battery management system (BMS), and charging port.
- Data analysis for vehicle level charging testing
- Interface with cross-functional teams to align on charging performance, HW, Control and Arbitration
- Support Vehicle level testing in wind tunnel, proving grounds and on-road
- Support Correlation model/simulation
- Participate in design reviews, provide input and engineering analysis to development teams
- Conduct benchmarking with competitive vehicles for range and efficiency attributes.
- Responsible for interpreting regulations and test procedures in collaboration with the homologation team
Qualifications
- Engineering Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an accredited University with a strong background in Thermal Science
- 7-10+ years’ experience with automotive charging attributes, systems and components in OEMs or suppliers
- Strong understanding of network protocols and communication standards
- Strong understanding of power electronics, DC-DC converters, and the electrical architecture of an EV.
- Hands-on experience with various types of EV chargers (Level 2 AC and DC Fast Chargers).
- Proven track record of problem solving and independent root cause analysis
- Demonstrated experience in a role focused on vehicle-side charging attributes, including testing, validation, and software development.
- Experience in vehicle engineering and attributes is desired
- Knowledge of vehicle thermal systems is a great plus
- Technical publications on charging and presentations in SAE conference is a plus
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
- Travel: 10%
- Minimum age of 21
- No driving related suspensions or revocation of Driver License (within a 3-5 year period)
- No drug or alcohol related driving incidents in the last 3 years
- No more than 1 serious moving violation in the last 3 years
- Must have a valid driver's license in the state of residence that you will be driving/operating a vehicle
- Will be subject to continuous Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) monitoring
Pay Disclosure
Salary Range/Hourly Rate range for California Based Applicants: $121,500-151,900 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
